Sitter Guide

A Guide to Farm Sitting Excellence

Welcome to BARNSITR. You’re here because you love farm life — the early mornings, the animals, the work that actually means something. We built this platform to connect people like you with farmers who need reliable, trustworthy help while they step away. This guide covers how everything works, what’s expected, and how to set yourself up for success.

Your Profile

  • Your profile is your business card, your portfolio, and your first impression — all in one place.
  • Write a bio that’s real. Tell farmers who you are, what animals you’ve worked with, and what you bring to the table. Authenticity earns trust faster than anything else.
  • Add photos. Show your work — animals you’ve cared for, farms you’ve worked on, yourself in your element. Farmers hire people they can picture on their property.
  • List your specialties. Cattle, goats, poultry, horses, milking, medication administration, livestock birthing — be specific. The more detail, the better your matches.
  • Share your profile link. You can share your BARNSITR profile directly on social media to build your pipeline. The platform works best when sitters are actively putting themselves out there.

How the Booking Process Works

  1. Browse or receive job requests based on your location, availability, and specialties.
  2. Connect with the farmer through BARNSITR messaging to discuss the scope of work.
  3. Schedule a video consultation to meet face to face virtually before committing. Use this time to walk through specifics — animal headcount, feeding schedules, stall mucking routines, pasture checks, egg collection, medication schedules, paddock rotation, and any other daily duties.
  4. Submit your offer. Once you understand the full scope, set your price on the platform and submit it.
  5. The farmer accepts or counters. All pricing is handled through BARNSITR — no off platformcash arrangements.
  6. Do great work. Your reviews and reputation are how you grow on this platform.

Specialties & Credentials

If you have certifications, training, or specialized experience — livestock handling, equine care, large animal first aid, veterinary technician background — list it. Sitters with verified specialties can be hired outside of their immediate area and are positioned to charge a premium for those skills. If you have something that sets you apart, don’t leave it off your profile.

The BARNSITR Code: Professional Standards

Honor your Commitments and Show up, Every Time. A farmer is trusting you with their livelihood. When you commit to a job, following through is a non-negotiable.

Communicate Proactively. If something looks off — an animal seems unwell, a gate is broken, a water line is frozen — you reach out immediately. Don’t wait to be asked.

Respect the Property. You’re a guest on someone’s farm. Treat it like your own.

Be Honest About Your Abilities. Don’t take a job you’re not qualified for. If a task is outside your experience, say so upfront.

Document Your Work. Photos during visits go a long way toward building farmer confidence and protecting yourself if questions come up.

Keep Everything on BARNSITR

We Take This Rule Extremely Seriously.

BARNSITR exists to protect both you and the farmer — through secure messaging, documented agreements, and a clear record of every job. When communication or payment happens off-platform, that protection disappears. If something goes wrong and there’s no record through BARNSITR, we have no way to help either party. We ask that all communication, pricing, and payment flow through the platform. Sitters who are found to be taking farmers off-platform for monetary gain will be permanently removed. This isn’t about rules for the sake of rules — it’s about keeping everyone covered.

When in doubt, keep it in the app.

Building Your Reputation

Every completed job is an opportunity to earn a review. Reviews are the currency of this platform — they determine how high you appear in search results, how much trust new farmers extend to you, and ultimately how much you can charge.

A few things that consistently earn strong reviews:

  • Arriving when you said you would.
  • Sending a check-in photo or message mid-visit, every time.
  • Leaving things cleaner than you found them.
  • Following up after the job to make sure the farmer was happy.

Questions?

If you’re ever unsure about something — a job scope, a platform feature, a billing question — reach out to us before assuming. We’d rather answer a question than clean up a miscommunication.
